Is it ok to swim on a lake?

With summer upon us, we might give heed to yet another angry retort that is actually good advice. Whether in a lake or a pool, swimming has few equals--and it can be a lot more fun than other forms of exercise.

For those whose joints are telling them that their bodies aren't what they used to be, swimming offers far less risk of injury than weight-bearing activities. Moreover, the buoyancy of water provides an overall resistance to muscular activity that no machine can offer, without the possibility of overloading one's back, knees, or ankles.
